The tour leaves from Coffee & Toffee, located in Quito's Mariscal neighborhood, at 7:00 am. For your convenience, you may choose to arrive early to enjoy one of their delicious breakfasts to begin your day.

Please note tips for your guides are not included in the price. If you enjoyed your trip, a tip of around 10% would be greatly appreciated.



Cancellation policy

If you need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours before your scheduled departure and we will refund 50%.  We cannot refund cancellations with shorter notice.

Cotopaxi National Park - Full Day Bikes


Duration: 12 hour(s) - Location: Cotopaxi National Park

This tour departs from Quito early in the morning and you will take the Pan American Highway through the stunning Avenue of the Volcanoes on your way to Cotopaxi National Park. During the journey, your English-speaking guide will share his/her extensive knowledge of the area's history. There will be opportunities to make stops along the way to take in the breathtaking scenery before arriving at the park at an altitude of 4,550 meters. 

We will then make our way to the José Rivas Refuge at 4,800 meters hiking along the incredible snowline. That's where you'll enjoy a rest along with lunch before heading on to the glacier itself where we will visit the fascinating ice caves, not to be missed, before returning to the refuge. Back at the car park, you will participate in a short training session and listen to a safety briefing before we begin the mad descent on mountain bikes to Laguna Limpiopungo. It's an 800 meter ride where you can travel at your own pace - leisurely or adrenaline fuelled - you decide.  Depending on time, we will decide whether we continue on a little further or drive to a local hostería before heading back to Quito.

  • 7:00 am - Meet at Coffee & Toffee for departure
  • 8:30 am - Quick stop along the way to pick up other clients
  • 9:30 am - Enter Cotopaxi National Park (paying $10 entrance fee)
  • 10:30 am - Explanation of the area, volcanoes, animals, etc.
  • 11:30 am - Arrive at the parking lot at 4,500 metres and begin the hike up to the José Rivas Refuge.
  • 12:30 pm - Reach refuge at 4,800 metres. Rest, enjoy the view along with lunch...
  • 1:30 pm - Hike to the glaciers at 5,000 metres, then return to the parking lot
  • 3:00 pm - Equipment check and short briefing; begin descent on mountain bike
  • 4:30 pm - Arrive at Laguna Limpiopungo via bike; after short rest depart for Cotopaxi National Park
  • 5:30 pm -  Arrive to a nearby hostería for chocolate cake and hot coffee / tea
  • 7:00 pm - Arrive in Quito and drop-off at your hotel
